Hi! I have a question that I am dealing with:
I have the Canopus ADVC 300. I want to get some Hi8 analog tapes onto my computer using a digital8 camcorder.... I'm wondering if its possible that using the S-video output on the camcorder; feeding S-video into the canopus; then outputting from Canopus to the computer with firewire...could this yield better quality results than using the firewire connection directly from the camcorder into the computer? I'm very concerned with getting the best image and sound quality possible.
I've also read the threads about black levels and the 7.5 vs 0 setup thing, and was wondering how that would be affected either way?
Thanks!

Just go straight from the Digital8 to the computer - there's no advantage to going via the Canopus.

As Johnny says, just use the Firewire output on the camcorder straight into your computer. The analogue information on the tape with be turned into DV in the camcorder and transferred to the computer. This has got to be better than outputting analogue video from the camcorder with the inherent losses involved in an analogue to analogue connection, turning it into digital data in the Canopus and then transferring.
