I tried a code i saw on here and now my Insignia player won't let my remote work. I can't get to any menus. the only way i can make the player work is if i use the buttons on the deck itself. i don't think it's the remote itself cause i just tested it on the same player downstairs and it worked. i even changed batteries. it works fine downstairs on the same player but ever since i was messing around with the secret menu under 16:9 the remote is useless. but i can now play region 2 PAL DVDs now. I opened one of my Christmas presents early to test it out. Creepshow - 2 Disc SE Region 2 and it worked after putting in the code. but that dang remote won't work at all. Please help. Please make my Christmas a happier one by telling me how to remedy this problem. Thanks in advance all.

    take care and happy holidays!

Just one of the drawbacks of "hacking" your player. You're better off buying a region free player.

If the manufacturer supplies firmware, you could try flashing the original firmware back into the player. Or if it is still under warranty, you can have it repaired (note that any warranty is technically now VOID because you altered the player).

Aside from that, it will likely now need to be replaced.

I wouldn't think the shop/repairer can prove you've "hacked" the player. Just take it back, keep a straight face, and tell them the remote doesn't work.

Not sure about Insignia, but Panasonics and Philips have certain key combinations to reset unit back to "out of box state". May be you could research some, to see if Insignia has such a feature. Worth a try.

You may have simply set the unit's remote code to a different remote. If you could locate the hack, you should be able to navigate the menu and change the code (Panasonic has multiple codes for using multiple Panasonic branded electronics in the same room - likely yours does also)

Good point. I thought of that after post. GTA, does your Insignia react at all when you push the remote buttons? On Panny's if there is a remote code miss match, the DVDR will give you an error code. You could also call Insignia and ask if there is a code to reset the unit to out of box state. Tell them you accidentally entered in some wrong settings and just want to start from scratch.

thanks for the replys everyone. my mom's boyfriend looked at the Insignia player (he's a electrician at NYU) and he said it needs to be replaced. He tried hooking up the cable into it cause I kept getting static on every channel and it didn't help but when he used a different junction splitter and hooked the antenna cable directly into the cable box and not through the Insignia player it worked. the static disappeared. So he said the Insignia was damaged and the output on the back was bent and looked like it was banged around. Plus he said the fan in the back of the player wasn't working anymore. So even if I got the thing working again with the remote it still would be crap. But that's ok since I got a couple of good years of usage out of it. I'm going to pick up a new dual vcr dvd recorder hopefully soon.
Anyone know of any good models or brands that won't burn a hole in my pocket price wise? but to answer your question jjeff no the player doesn't react at all when i push the remote buttons. Odd cause when I use the same remote on the downstairs player (same model) it works. My player's just messed up. Time to replace i guess. And I'm pretty sure the warranty on the player is over. BTW is there a region free player that is also dvd/vcr recorder player? Does Insignia make one? I really want to play my copy of Creepshow (Region 2) Special Edition that I got for Christmas on my TV instead of my computer. Thanks in advance for any further replys all.

    Take Care.

Combo players are rarely region free, and rarely hackable. The simple solution is to backup your "wrong region" DVD - All rippers remove the region protection code by default. But then comes the TV system isssue. Most (all?) region 2 disks are PAL, so make sure you get a multi TV system player - Much harder to convert PAL to NTSC than getting rid of the RPC!
