  1. I want to begin copying my DVD collection to my media center hard drive but I dont want to lose too much quality and I want to keep my menus. I was wondering what solutions are out there that might be good for this?

The only options I could think of were either ripping the entire disk (Which does not offer any compression)

or RatDVD (which I am exploring now)

    anything else? Paid? Free?

A member since 2002 and never heard of DVDShrink? Except for a very few 2007 movies, Ripit4Me 1710/DVDDecrypter/DVDShrink works on everything I've run through it. Works well with compression down to 70%, then other programs that re-encode are better.

RatDVD is pretty much a failed venture at present. The program hasn't been updated since 2005.

I would try Shrink myself. It's fast and can keep all your menus. It can reduce the size by half most times and still preserve decent quality. If you want higher quality, try DVD Rebuilder. But it will take quite a bit more time.

If you need a ripper for some of the newer DVDs, DVDFab HD Decrypter is free.
