I have a 48" Samsung. Also how can you tell if your tv is HD ready?

google your TV name and model to find out if your TV got a built in tuner -
If you are asking about a HD tuner for a computer, then there are a few. Whether you can get HD off your cable and display it through your computer to your TV depends a lot on your cable source. You can get tuners for OTA (Over The Air) HDTV, but not all cable services provide unencrypted HDTV.
On the other hand, if you are asking about cable boxes (Cable TV tuners), it again depends on your cable service and what HD channels they provide, free or pay.
And the big question would be, what type of TV do you plan on viewing this on? Does it have HD inputs? Component, HDMI, DVI, S-video or VGA ?
And welcome to our forums. -
Can you clarify your question, do you want to buy a HD Tuner card or a HD Set top box?

Some new DTV sets accept a "cable card" that you rent from the cable company. The "cable card" allows DTV set decryption of the channels in your subscription plan.
Does that answer your question?
The DTB-H260F is an ATSC tuner that also tunes clear (unencrypted) QAM on cable.

The DTB-H260F will work with an "HD Ready" TV set but would be difficult to connect to a computer.
* ATSC uses 8-VSB modulation. Cable uses QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation). These are different and incompatible RF modulation technologies. The baseband signal is usually MPeg2 but can also be MPeg4 for cable.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
