I have a Oppo DV-981HD dvd player and I just recently bought an Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver. I wanted to run the audio and video through HDMI, but for some reason the sound was really low when I connected it. So I went back and hooked it up with an Digital Optical connection and now it sounds great. Is there any way to hook up this DVD player through HDMI and have great sound?

Have you setup the audio settings properly in the Oppo audio setup menu? Suggested settings begin on p.23 of the manual.

I tried everything, but I'll check the manual thanks!! I was wondering if anyone has this DVD player with this receiver so I can get some more specific suggestions.

I suggested the manual because from past experience, setting the correct speaker size (among other things) affects the sound levels. I would start with what is in the manual which is specific for audio over HDMI. If that doesn't solve the problem, contact Oppo (they have great tech support) or hit the AVS forums as the Oppo units are covered well over there.
