I've been trying to figure this out (even installed the actual Real Player since Real Alternative gave me the same problem) and I'm coming up snake eyes. Divx, Flv's (streamed from Youtube or on my HDD) all work fine. It just seems to be Real Video.

I'm using an Acer Asire with a Mobile AMD Sempro 3500+ with 512 ram, ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 with Windows Basic.

Thanks for any advice. I'm at this point.

It sounds like a overlay/hardware acceleration problem but then shouldn't other video work. Are you using same player for real and divx, flvs?

From the looking around on this an Win XP help file on real.com did suggest turning graphics acceleration off however I googled around and according to what I read the controls graphics acceleration don't exist in Vista so I'm scratching my head. I does have the "hallmark" first frame of the video file that stay put and is only visible if you drag the Real/Media Player Classic window directly over where it was when the first was first opened.

I've tried different files in Real 10.5 and Media Player Classic and all other files work fine but both give me the same problem with Real Video

I've also been able to view divx, MP4's etc using VLC fine so it looks like something specific to Real Video files esp since the same thing happens with either Real or Media Player.

100%. I'm been testing it with the stream from my country's public broadcasters daily politics program @ www.cbc.ca/politics

Been doing some more asking around on this and if anybody googles in to his thread apparently it's a known problem with Real Player and Vista (well...one of the many known problems with Vista lmao).

Thank goodness emedded video has pretty much taken over from Real Player so it's only a minor problem to live with.
