  1. Hi all,
I edit in Avid Xpress Pro, which is always a bit behind the other NLEs when it comes to keeping up with the times....
Please bear with me, because I'm just trying to grasp this stuff; the bottom line is, I'd like to shoot with a new Sony EX1, and edit 35Mb/s files in Avid Xpress Pro. Avid Xpress Pro won't accept the 35Mb/s files, so I'm told I can only shoot in 25Mb/s (HDV).
Others tell me there are ways around Avid's limitations...

The EX1 camera records onto SXS cards, as .mp4 files. On a forum dedicated to this camera, someone has told me to use ffmpegx to convert these files to something Avid Xpress Pro could import. Here's where he loses me:

”You have to try for yourself, the latest ffmpeg do have DnxHD support, but if ffmpegX doesn't use the latest version you have to dig deeper and maybe compile it from source“

Can anyone advise me, please? I don't know what DnxHD is.
All I know is that Avid Xpress Pro seems to like .mxf files.

Is ffmpegx all I need to convert one file type to another, or do I need to ”dig deeper“ and learn about DnxHD?

    Thanks,
    justwondering

  2. Are there no Avid Xpress Pro editors on this forum, or people who know about it?
Just curious. It's my first post here... maybe I'm in the wrong place for this kind of information?
    Thanks,
