  1. I have a dvd-r with video burned to it already. It plays in the dvd-player & everything, but the picture is too dark. I no longer have the original vhs, so I can't simply re-capture it & adjust the brightness like I normally would. Can I rip the dvd-r & adjust the brightness? If so, what tool can I use? A couple tools I already have, but couldn't figure a way to do it with, are the following...

    InterVideo WinDVD Creator
    TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6
    Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE DVD

...thank you in advance, as always.

Can't you import dvds in videostudio? Or else use vob2mpg on the DVD and import the mpg in videostudio.

If there's an option for it, I'm not seeing it...which means I could just be missing it.

  4. You could run it through DVDRebuilder, which of course means re-encoding. Add a line of Avisynth script in the filter editor and save. For example:

    Levels(0,1.3,255,0,255)
#Corrects gamma for display in a brighter environment.

    Or this:

    Tweak(hue=0,sat=1,bright=10,cont=1)
    #Brighten: goes from (-)255.0 to (+)255.0, default 0.0

    Good luck.

[EDIT] The scripts above just brighten everything up a bit. With Tweak you can also adjust the color saturation, hue, contrast. For more, look here:

Separate from recoding, you have playback brightness/contrast controls in software and some hardware DVD players plus of course display controls.

The reason you try to get it right before encoding is to avoid using these controls.
