I got a new Vaio VGNNR110E and it didnt come with any back up cd's or OS. I was wondering if I can back it up somehow, like imaging it or something. And yes it is a vista, can't downgrade, im sad.

  2. All the Sony Vaios I've seen have software to create restore CD/DVDs.

Have you looked in the Programs section under Sony?

One other thing is search the Web for System Recovery as it may have a hidden partition that is accessed with the proper keystroke(s). Another option that I do not recall the brand computer had a restore to new option available from pressing F8 at startup.

  4. That has to be built-in. If a computer has the software to create restore discs they are usually designed to put it back to exactly like when you bought it. Note I said if, they do not all come setup for that.

My HP laptop did not come with discs, it has 8GB of the second hard drive partitioned and hidden (using a startup driver) with the restore compressed.

In this modern world manufactured systems usually come with a quickstart guide. The assumption is that it is small enough so new system owners will read it.

Usually these short documents include the instructions to backup.

Also during the first boot of the system before Vista goes off and does its initalization bs or just after, they tell you to perform the backup.

If you do not have instructions on making the backup disks, call SONY support. They should have script telling you what to do. Making the restore disks is important. If you don't have instructions, don't guess. It could cost you $50 to $100 to get a set of restore disks if you crap up your hard disk.
