Aparrantly .avi files from a camera are not the same as .avi files created on a computer. Does anyone here have experience making taking .avi files from their camera and burning them to CD or DVD and playing them on a DVD player?

An avi is a container that can contain different video and audio codecs. Most DivX DVD Players only supports avi with divx/xvid video and ac3,mp3 audio.

What video codec does the canon camera record in? You can identify the video codec in an avi with gspot.

AFAIK, Canon records as mjpeg AVI, nothing I've heard any DVD player handle. But should be easily convertable using AutoGK or similar.
