  1. I had a question regarding playing back files that use soft subs like mkv in Media Center 2005.

I have no porblem playing back mkv files, audio and video are fine, but subtitles arent controllable from within Media Center as far as I can tell.

The particular reason I need this control is that the current mkvs im trying to play are movies that have subs for some dialogue (I.E Star Trek movies: I dont want full subs, just the subs for the alien languages)

Are there any plugins for MCE 2005 that make this easier or is there a way to set this up outside of MCE? Any help is appreciated. thanks.

MCE = Media Center = Moving you to the Media Center/HTPC forum section.

That's an interesting problem. Are those subs different than other ones you use or are they only active when "aliens" are speaking? If you can just leave them enabled then you can use VOBSUB to play them back within MCE. I use it for foreign films I ripped to my storage array. There isn't a hotkey for toggling subs with MCE 2005 that I know of.

  4. sorry about putting this in the wrong section.

regarding the type of subs Im talking about...

its a bit difficult to explain, but basically, its like having a dvd with subs that are forced (i.e. for alien languages that have to be put up regardless) and also the subs for the general english/spanish/french/etc translations of the dialogue.

Im not sure how mkv handles this type of subbing, but in mpc im able to do just that, hide the dialogue subs and only display the forced subs of alien languages. I cant replicate that in MCE
