  1. Hi,

Yep, I am a new poster.

Having trouble being able to play a homemade DVD +R DL disk made with HD Writer AE 5.0.

Have a Panasonic X920 Video Camera and using the software that came with the camera - HD Writer AE 5.0 for burning the DVD.

My Computer is a Lenovo G575, Windows, with this being shown in Device Manger as the DVD Drive – Tsst corp CDDVDW SN-208AB Sata CdRom Device. The optic drive recognizes the double layer disk.

DVD being used – Memorex 8x Double layer DVD+R

I have had good results burning MPEG2 to a single layer DVD but would like to use AVCHD 1080i in burning to a DVD +R DL for better picture sharpness and in doing would allow enough room for 1 hour recordings on the double layer disk.

The process went just as the program HD Writer AE 5.0 steps indicated and acted as if everything went perfect. But the end result with the recording is that it will not play on my Samsung BluRay Player model BD-E5300 even though the player information says it will play AVCHD format.

As matter of fact it will not even play back using the HD Writer program using Media playback function within the program on the computer that made it.

What must I need to do different for the DVD +R DL to work correctly?

first you'd need to buy some of the only dvd dl discs that work. verbatim +r dl.

as for the avchd make one that fits on a dvd single layer and try that for now. if it doesn't work on that try a different program like multiavchd and see if that makes compatible discs.

The ONLY consistently reliable approach, assuming your burner isn't a piece of junk, is to use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and burn with the free ImgBurn program. When you deviate from either or both of those, you will have problems.

Throw your Memorex discs in the trash. They are garbage.

If you're going to post back how your friends use Memorex and don't have problems or how you must use HD Writer and nothing else, then we are done here. I told you what will work. It's up to you whether you want to follow that advice or keep wasting your time.

  5. Thanks for the replies,

So number 1 my dvd choice was wrong. That is easy to correct, but I will need to order the Verbatim +r dl dvd. In the mean time I will experiment with the memorex . But now agree that they would not be any value use for saving.

I did try to burn a data disk with 7 gb of data and that works fine, so I assume the burner is OK for using dl dvd.

Will try cutting the video way down and burn to single layer dvd tonight. Thanks for that tip.

This is what the files look like that I have for the one video and the one that looks like a film frame the properties says it is an AVCHD Video (.m2ts).

This is all quite new to me and am just starting.

I realize a better program for burning would be nice to have and have been looking. And ImgBurn was downloaded but I did not install because I also found out that the latest version is loaded with adware.

I do not wish to jump into another problem.

And then there is Multivchd as another choice as has been stated.

Do not know anything about either program but am very interested in a safe download with no adware problems. Because somehow this may be the fix to my problem.

So I need a safe, clean program that will work. Any proven suggestions? And thanks again for your information, if there is one thing that I do know is that I am here because I don't know.

  6. After doing some more testing with sl dvd it is found that if making a AVCHD dvd that if a menu is put on it will not play. Leave the menu off and it will play.

So since a menu is nice to have, will be looking for another program to burn the files to dvd.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Trying to learn how to use this forum, I hope this is the right spot to answer.

ImgBurn now seems to have a problem with malware. And I sure do not need those problems.

MultiAVCHD I know nothing about. Will this program do the burning job on Double layer DVD?

I found out that I can make a dvd now , but the HD Writer program will not allow a menu to be on the DVD. That is not a good option for when you wish a couple smaller videos. So I need a new program that will make the DVD.

As with most software that is free, you need to choose advanced install and/or uncheck the extras that it tries to install.

I use and update ImgBurn as needed, and it doesn't install anything that YOU don't let it install. People are always in a hurry to click "next" and don't read what they are clicking.

As Krispy Kritter stated, pay attention to what you are doing when installing!!

    And it is NOT malware!!

Thanks for your input. Since I got One DVD made for now I will wait a couple days before I make up my mind. I admit some times in the past I have just about been caught not un-checking a box. I also admit I’m older and a little slower on the computer learning. But after I get the hang of it I do OK.
But thank you for the heads up on doing an advance or custom install. Any information about the program is very helpful. I got this new video camera and I got a lot to learn, and it is fun.
