I am new to the world of DVD burning and need some help. I will be getting Toast 6 Titanium in a few days. I have downloaded Mac The Ripper and already used that with no trouble. I thought Toast would be the only other thing I would need, but it appears as though that won't do the compression I need to shrink the DVD's down to the proper size to burn. I have been searching and reading for several hours about programs like DVD2oneX, Handbrake, etc... but it seems like they will only work with OS X 10.3.9. I only have 10.3. Does this mean I'm out of luck or does anyone know of another program I can use with plain old 10.3?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  2. almost all apps have been recompiled as universal binary - e.g. to work on both, Intel and PPC, Macs natively...That requires at least 10.3.9..Is there a particular reason you wont upgrade to 10.3.9?

Toast compresses to DVD-5. Bottom-left-hand corner, there's a "fit-to-DVD compression" checkbox or something of the sort.

    --edit--

Well, at least that's Toast 8 ... not sure about 6.

I have the same question for you that Serbian asked: Why not upgrade to 10.3.9? It's free. And doing so sounds as if it will solve many of your problems. Is there some software that you have that breaks if you go beyond 10.3? Or is there some other reason you don't want to upgrade?

In addition to the compression tool in Toast, you can also use the one in ffmpegX (once you pay the nominal fee). There are versions of ffmpegx that will work just fine under 10.3 if it turns out that you absolutely cannot upgrade your OS (for reasons that I have difficulty anticipating).

I just got this computer and it came with OS X, and I just purchased 10.3 to put on it, so there no, there isn't a reason why I can't upgrade. I guess I just didn't think about downloading the updates, but I guess that will make everything a lot easier Thanks for the advice
