Image thumbnails with file names printed

I scanned almost 200 film negatives of a friend's wedding. I would like to print proof sheets with twelve images per page. I would like the file name of each picture printed with the each image to make it easy to choose the pictures that my friend wants printed. Any suggestions on an easy way to do this?

CompuPic from Photodex has this capability (contact sheet to your specs with filename under each pic). good luck. I've done 20 per sheet with filenames.

XnView will also do this.

Highlight 20 images > click on the create tab > choose contact sheet.

noki, I looked at Photodex's web site. They have some interesting looking products with some nice features. Has anyone used any of their products?

Just FYI since you have a happy solution, Windows XP has that capability built in (and Vista I think).

Simply right-click on an image in a directory and select Open With -> Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. When it opens, it shows all the pictures in the folder and you select the ones you want. Click the print button. This will launch the Photo Printing Wizard. One of the options is a contact sheet. I've attached an example which took less time to generate than it has to type this message!

JohnnyMalaria, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer prints 35 pictures per page when printing contact pages. I want the pictures to be larger (12 per page). I didn't see any way to change the number of pictures per page. Do you know a way to change this parameter?

I used XnView years ago but decided on Irfanview since I didn't see a need for two image browsers at the time but Irfanview cannot see the thumbnails on XviD or WMV files so I decided to reinstall XnView to see if it could see them and it does so I decided to keep two image browsers.

Irfanview is easier to use so I use it as my main browser but when I need to view things that Irfanview can't see then I use XnView.

Looking at Irfanview, it looks like it will do the same thing. You'll have to play around with the settings to get what you want.
