I really like DVD forger. The new version 0.6.1 Alpha is great and allows for faster encoding with superb quality with the HC Encoder even with fast 1 pass option. My problem is the chapters. If I click next it takes me back to the dvd menu rather than going to the next chapter. This happens in any software dvd player I have tried (NeroShowtime, MediaPlayerClassic, WinMediaPlayer, VLC). I am afraid to burn the movie and waste a DVDR. Anyone have any insight? Thanks

    Hello,

    Thanks for using DVDforger!

In version 0.6.1, chapters usually don't work. (With HC you sometimes get chapters and sometimes don't; with QuEnc chapters are never created.) This is a known bug and I'm working on it, so please be patient until the next version.

    Have a nice day,

I was setting the chapters in the Configuration screen. I instead set the chapters in the title menu and my created DVD now has the chapters I wanted.

    Hello,

The values you set in the configuration are only default values which will be used for new projects. (In the new version, there will be a notification about this at the configuration dialog )

However, you still were lucky to get the chapters, even after setting it at the title properties - there are some really annoying bugs in the code which is supposed to deal with creating chapters.

    Have a nice day,

Well, that's certainly the most interesting name for a software package that I've seen in a long time.

It really is a great piece of software. if only it could create motion menus. I also wish the screen that allows you to save frames as bmp allowed to jump more than 1000 frames at a time. Taking a frame that is 1 hour in takes forever, unless I am doing it wrong.

    Hello,

    jman98:
I picked a name which had 0 results in Google previously, so now I can easily monitor what people say about it

    marioval:
Thanks for the compliment I don't plan adding support for motion menus in the near future, but I'm also thinking about improving the frame-preview window, because now I also find this behaviour annoying (but it was much easier to implement...).

The option to capture frames and save them as bmp is no big deal as I create my backgrounds with Photoshop anyway. Motion menus are not a big deal also, but if the option was there that would be great .

One thing I would like to see, if possible, is the ability to insert a background pic into the menu creator, that I could move around and resize by clicking and dragging the corner of the pic. That way I could easily put multiple images into the menu and move them around and be more creative and have nicer menus without needing a separate image editor like photoshop. I am no programmer so its probably easier said than done and would probably require reinventing the wheel so to speak but thats my 2 cents anyway.

Also I was unable to import a .vob file into my project. I had to convert it to avi using autogk first. Was that my error or should DVDForger be able to import vob. What about mkv?

Also is it possible to add a short 5 second or so intro clip that plays before the menu comes up?

Anyway I have always used Convertxtodvd to create dvd's but I am using this app exclusively now. Can't wait untill a new version comes out. keep up the good work alv42.

Saving frames became a big deal for me, because I got used to use this feature quite frequently. For motion menus I'm too lazy at the moment...

This is what Photoshop is for I'd like to keep things simple, and the menu stuff is already the most complicated part of the program. The only planned improvement in the graphical capabilities of the menu editor is the ability to add text labels.

It all depends on the codecs installed on your computer. I have the K-Lite pack installed (and have never messed up my system by installing random codecs), and I can import VOBs and MKVs without problems.

Currently it isn't. When the next release it finished, it will be possible (in a tricky way) to have an intro video when the disc is inserted to the player before the main menu comes up.

Thanks! Unfortunately I don't have as much time for it as I'd like to nowadays, but the development is definitely going on.

Is there a known issue with the settings in the configuration settings window ? First I noticed that When I set the chapters in the config window I get no chapters. However if I set chapters in the settings for each title individually, I do get chapters. That was already discussed before. Now I notice that If I change the colors for the menu items in the config window, my menu items do not show up at all. On my pc I have to blindly move the mouse around and it will highlight when I find it. On the TV, If I use the up/down arrow I can select the items but they are basically invisible. But, if I set the colors in the settings for each individual titles setting window, my menus show up fine.

The big issue with the configuration window is that the settings apply only to completely new projects. (I'd rather call them 'defaults' than 'settings'.)

If you already have the titles when changing the config, the chapter settings in the existing titles won't be overwritten.

I cannot imagine such a side effect of changing the colors (but of course I may be wrong). Could it be that the original color of the menus was almost the same as the background? (However, here it's also true that when you change the default color in the config, it won't affect the current project at all - the new colors will be used in the next new project only.)

I would love this app even more if the settings were in either the config or the title options, not both.

Also is there a log file somewhere with timestamps so I can see exactly how long everything is taking. Just nice to know when comparing to other apps.

Hey alv, it happened again. I created a dvd and the menu items were invisible. A little different this time. I had the colors set to white red and yellow on a black background. The items do not show up at all. if i put my mouse over it, it turns red and i can see the text and select it. if I move the mouse away, invisible again. Is this a bug or a configuration issue?

Well, this seems to be bug then. Could you please send your project file and the configuration file to dvdforger@gmail.com, so I can test it?

(In fact, I have seen a very similar bug in DVDStyler as well, and in the DVDStyler forums the conclusion was that it was a problem with dvdauthor. Nevertheless, let's see what we have here.)

Which files do you need? What is the file extensions of the ones you need? I have already deleted the output files as they were no good to me without a menu. I will do a new project tonight with a tiny file just for testing purposes then I will email you whatever you need. Thanks

    Hello,

I need the .dfp file, and on the configuration dialog you can also save the config to a file using the 'Save to file' button. If you use an image as the menu background, it'd be also nice to have. I don't need any of the video files.

So basically setup a project as if I were going to author it then just before I create it, save the files and send them to you along with my background image?

Also any way this could be codec related. I recently did a fresh install of WinXP and am no longer using codec packs. They reak too much havoc on my system. I just use VLC as my player and install realalternative and quicktimealternative. The only other codecs I install is the most current xvid and divx and ffdshow. Before my clean install of XP, when I had all kinds of codec packs on my system, I had no problems with DVDForger but had problems with everything else. Now everything is fine except for DVDForger.

    Yes, exactly. Thanks!

No. Codecs only affect video and audio conversion, they have nothing to do with the menus at all.
