I downloaded DvdForger, but am having a problem getting it to open mpeg or vob files. I have the required codecs, I think, because they all play fine in Windows media player. AmI missing something. any help would be apreciated.
Thanks
Brad

AmI missing something
If you have VOBs or DVD compliant mpg files then you need an authoring tool, not a conversion tool.
Start by reading What is DVD (top left corner), then use g-spot to see if your mpg files are already compliant.
The use something like GUIForDVDAuthor to create your DVD.
If you still believe DVD Forger is the tool for you, then you need to at least explain what it does do when you try to load these files. Do you get error messages ? Can you not locate or see your files ? You have to remember that we cannot see your PC or what is happening there, so you have to give us the details.Read my blog here.

It is an authoring tool, not a conversion tool. It opens most files fine, but on vob or mpeg it analizes the file for a couple minutes then says that they are not video files. I just wondered it it is suposed to open them, as there is not much documentation available yet. Any ideas?
Thanks

Semantics. It is a conversion tool that authors, like many others. If you already have compliant files, author them directly with something else.
G-spot should always be the first port of call when having problems with video files. It will tell you if they are broken, what exactly is in them, and if you are set up to play them. Open your files with g-spot and see what it says.Read my blog here.

Hello,
If the files can be played in Media Player but cannot be opened by DVDforger, the most possible reason is that your AviSynth installation is broken. Please try reinstalling AviSynth (the installer is in 'tools/avisynth').
If it doesn't work, I have no other ideacodecs are voodoo magic after all. (I can open VOBs and MPGs using DVDforger, but I'm a purist and have used the same codec pack for years, so my computer is exceptionally clean of codec problems - and this also means that I have no experience how to track down such problems.)
However, Gunslinger has a point: DVDforger will re-encode all video files, and if you already have VOB files, you may not want to re-encode them (which means some inevitable quality loss).
Have a nice day,
