Mac OS X 10.4.11 due Wednesday evening

Two days ahead of Leopard's release, Apple will drop the final update to Tiger on Mac OS X 10.4 users Wednesday evening, sources report.

Mac OS X 10.4.11 packs more than two dozen fixes and also includes the final version of Safari 3.0 for Tiger.

Mac OS X 10.5 goes on sale Friday at 6:00 p.m.

I added the bold highlighting. Given all the bemoaning that the Redmond boys receive, I can't even imagine how people would react if Microsoft said at the launch of Vista that all support for XP ended there and then....is that really what Apple are doing or will they still provide bug fixes and security updates for a few more years?

  2. Obviously you know very little about how apple works...... When it says final update it's the final OS update not final security update or patch...... Plus they "support" OS X all the way back to 10.2 still to this day.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 10.4.12 down the road if the ".11" update doesn't resolve most of the outstanding issues. Apple is very good about leaving the last iteration of a major version extremely stable before diverting (almost) all the resources to the newer version (except for security issues which they'll patch two or three versions back).

Getting a Leopard-equipped iMac next week; toe-tapping until then...

  5. I feel bad because now that i re-read the original post it was just a question, not an attack as I originally took it. Sorry to the original poster........

    @ rumple:
    Are you getting a 20" or a 24"?
maxed to the wall, or stock factory?

10.2 is still supported? I was unaware of that. I thought security updates were only for 10.3 and 10.4.

by "support" ssj2 means support in the form of making sure
Quicktime is compatible, java patches work,
iTunes ( but not iLife), etc. The Apple Downloads page states what security patches
are for what OS, and the last few have been Panther and Tiger only.

If you call Apple's support line, you'll see that 10.2.8 isn't even discussed
    unless your an education institution.

Last night I installed 10.4.11 in my girlfriend's MacBook.

Does anyone know what will happen to Bootcamp 1.4 beta? Will still be legal to use it even though Leopard is out?

    officially, no.
but unofficially, yes, although if you have problems and call
Apple about it, they will direct you to buy Leopard.

    Thanks for the reply.

Actually today I decided to install Leopard. I bought it, installed it and upgraded to 10.5.1. Everything looks fine but I´m facing a problem now.

Firefox does not work anymore. When I attempt to open Firefox the icon on the Dock jumpss, then stops, and will not open. I also saw it crashing and I did send the report to Apple.

At this point I uninstalled and downloaded version 2.0.0.9 and installed it again. It did not worked...

Well, I will use safari for a while until I find a fix

Google Earth did not work either. It just crased. I will download the latest version and try again later.

Just found a fix. I deleted the old profile from /library/mozilla directory. Then I reinstalled it and it worked fine
