benq fp241 monitor get it co communicate with dvd and reciever?

We don't know what we are doing. We purchased a benq lcd monitor that also can play dvd's. We bought an Oppo dv970hd player and a sony str-dg 510 reciever with sony speakers. We can get the screen to play on s-video but not hdmi. There is no sound. The receiver and speaker sound check works, the fm radio works (but not the am). How do we get the sound to work? How do we get the hdmi montior setting to play? We would be eternally grateful to anyone who could help us.

Have you read the "Notes When Using HDMI" on page 7 (of the Oppo manual)?

Connection should be HDMI from Oppo to Sony. Then HDMI from Sony to Benq.
