Unless I'm mistaken, youtube uses flash. So the first thing to do would be to download and install the latest version. There should be FAQ, troubleshooting guide, and links on youtube.

You can also go to Tools / Internet Options / Advanced / Mulitmedia and ensure you still have the options selected to allow viewing of auidio/video/images in IE.

And the second comment above? The red "x"'s are place holders and are usually the result of the options being disabled in IE.

If the options aren't disabled, then you may want to download and reinstall IE.

Sorry to hear your still having problems. I'm running Windows XP Pro. My error, I assumed you have XP. I'm not familiar with Vista. I didn't want to buy a new computer until all the bugs were worked out of vista. Is your computer a new commercial one? Or something with a Vista upgrade? Here's a website I use sometimes when I get into a jam. Tech Support Guy.org. It's absolutely free professional advice. I'm not there in front of your machine. So, I can only make a few guesses as to want it may be. And since I don't know Vista, yet. My advice may be useless. Hey, buy at least I'm honest, LOL. And if all else fails, there's always the old Destructive Mode System Recovery. But, you might try a System Restore first. Back to just before you noticed the issue. Seems to me I once had a problem simular to yours. I not sure but I think I did something to delete/reload video drivers in Device Manager. I had a simular DirectX issue I dealt with the same way. Did you try stopping all services in MSCONFIG, but not the Microsoft ones. And stop all Startups in MSCONFIG, as well. Then reboot and check. Booting in safe mode, is another possibility? There are several things to try. And I know I've forgot a few other tricks. Does Vista have a program called PC Doctor? Self diagnostic program. You can also check System Information and look under problem devices. See if any thing shows there. Should be blank. If there is something there it may be your problem It will gve you an idea of the conflict/s, or driver/s issues. You may have another driver in conflict in an IRQ. May need to be reasigned a different IRO. Last but not least there's REGEDIT. But, stay away from that if your not an advanced user!!! Wish I could be of more help. But, I did give it a Blind try. Good luck!

I helped a neighbor with a similar problem a few months ago, it turned out to be the firewall. Apparently someone had denied access to Internet Explorer in one of the settings in Zonealarm. I would check your Norton firewall settings, look for the program settings for Internet Explorer and either modify them, or delete and have the firewall query again.

    Hope this is it!
