    Hello

I have just had to rebuild my computer - everthing is more or less back to normal. However, all the divx and xvid movies I have converted no longer play in the correct aspect ratio.

All the movis were encoded as 16:9 and have the correct flags in them. Before the rebuild WMP would play these in the correct 16:9 ratio. However, since the rebuild all of these movies now play just as their pixel dimensions (720x400 ish), WMP does not read the 16:9 flag on them and displays the video nearly 4:3.

Is there a setting I have missed to enable WMP to read the flags. As I said, before the rebuild WMP played the files in the correct ratio, now it does not. The only thing that has changed is the player. The movies are exactly the same.

Hope someone can sort this out as it is driving me mad.

    Thanks. Eon

  2. Are you using a recent version of Divx or Xvid? Older versions didn't support DAR flags.

By the way 720x400 is about 16:9.

Why not use Media Player Classic and/or VirtualDub to watch your DivXs/XviDs?
Both are smaller, faster and better than M$ Windows Media Player.

    Got is sorted out -

I was using the most recent Divx - uninstalled it, then reinstalled and it works just as before. Did not think the codec could be the source of the problem.

Anyway - thanks for the help.

  5. Odd that the most recent Divx gave you problems. Maybe the playback DAR setting was misconfigured:
