    apologies, I'm a stupid newbie...

ok, am about to cry as have a full mini dvd of lovely footage of my little baby and idiotically finalized the disc rather than do a straight transfer, in the hope I'd be able to look at it on my dvd player. Well that didn't work and now when I try to put the images onto the pc it says 'unsupported disc'.

Just read the instruction manual and for my sony (dcr-dvd306) you CAN'T unfinalize a disc in DV mode.

other than kick myself, is there anything I can do?

    thank you so much...

Your success in getting this footage into your PC will depend on the connections on the PC.

Your Sony manual should mention a cable (forget it's name now) which essentially is a firewire (1394) connector to the PC.

You than need some transfer/capture program such as Ulead Video Studio to copy the footage to the PC and from there to author a dvd assuming, of course, that you also have a dvd burner in the PC.

There are a lot of tutorials within the main site here to get you on your way.

Another possible option if you have a stand-alone dvd recorder is that Sony may have another cable - 3 RCA jacks - to directly connect that to the recorder and burn a dvd directly. Same applies to a video recorder but quality will suffer.

See what is supported from the manual.

What software is giving you the 'unsupported disc' error? Windows should at least recognize the disc.

    Finalized?
    -RW?
    -RW can't be un-finalized?

    You lost me already.
