I've been asked a lot lately to convert film or tape to dvd but I seem to have a problem with which format is compatible with everyone's player, so my question is..can you burn for either format on a dvd-r or dvd+r disk? I know this sounds ridiculous but how do movies get burned to play on either format.

I searched for this question because I know it must have been posted before but found no results.

Sorry but it has really bugged me.

Thanks eddv but that's a little more info then I needed but it was helpful. I suppose the answer would be ask first, burn later.

MPeg2 using the specifics indicated is the universal DVD format. +R or -R can be read on all but the earliest players.
