    Hey everyone!

Just wondering if you guys could give me some of your feedback on the these programs.

I have both and i am trying to make a decision on which to use more, what i usually use them for is convert avi/mpeg files from NTSC to PAL ready to be authored and burnt to a DVD and would like to know all the good and bad things you have experienced, ie audio/video snyc problems or loss or audio/video quality etc!

I also have and use both.
I find ConvertX to so much easier, especially for multiple files
(I have a batch program which is SOOOOO simple beyond belief)
I also find that it accepts "nearly" whatever i throw at it !!
TMPG seems to "fanny about" changing settings to suit itself etc
Personally, i think the output from both is very similar (IMHO) and i usually go for the EASIER option

None of this is tech speak you must realise - just my humble opinion
    Don't worry.......we'll be alright...

I like TMPG Xpress more, it seems faster and fairly easy to use as well. Everything is laid out in an orderly manner. No complaints on the batch tool, I mean how easy do you want it to be? just add a project and hit batch encode then leave and come back when its done. It does the job and has the option to encode two at a time... great for Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad.

One big advantage TXP4 has over ConvertX is that it can output to multiple formats not just DVD. Plus I've always read about TMPG's MPEG quality being second to none on this forum.

My (admittedly brief) tests with TmpgencXpress didn't impress. It was unbelievably slow doing any conversion, taking up to 8 times as long as ConvertXtoDVD when processing the same file.

TmpgencXpress uses the Mainconcept encoder (as opposed to the Tmpgenc Plus encoder), yet it seems to be much slower than any other implementation of Mainconcept.

Personally, for a quick conversion, nothing beats ConvertXtoDVD, and for one that needs a higher quality job, FAVC wins over tmpgencXpress hands down.

    Of course it doesn't.
It uses the mainconcept h264 codec for encoding AVC mp4s,
and comes with the divx codec too,
    but it's tmpg mpeg encoding

    Yes it's slow.

    they're not really comparable.

ConvertXtoDVD only exports to DVD MPEG-2 file... So wouldn't it be more fair to compare it to TMPGEnc 2.5 Plus (minus the subtitle support)? Then we can discuss quality vs speed.

Xpress 4.0 is a different set of software that is more multi-purpose with filters and a wider range of input and output, to juggle all that with a decent encoding speed is impressive. Lets find another all multi-purpose encoder to pit it up against then we can truly appreciate it even more.
