I have a Chaintech GeForce FX5600 Personal Cinema edition running on a P4 1.8Ghz with a gig of ram under Windows 2000 Professional. Using the latest Chaintech drivers I used to get a BSOD (Blue screen error) when I started WinDVR 2 OEM with the personal cinema package. After thoroughly uninstalling all of the WDM capture and Video drivers, I updated to the latest driver versions from NVidia, using driver version 162.18 for the display driver and version 2.26 for the WDM capture / TV tuner / audio & video crossbars. Now, when I run WinDVR, I get the error message "Overlay is not available. Please close application and lower resolution, color depth and/or refresh rate for better performance. Or please enable Video Mirror if using Twin View clone/extended mode." I get this error message regardless of what resolution I have my devices set for. My current hardware setup uses 1280x1024 resolution for my flatscreen LCD monitor (analog) and HDTV 1080i resolution for the secondary display, a digital back-projection widescreen HDTV. Refresh rates are 75hz for the LCD monitor, 60hz for the HDTV. I have video mirror turned on.

After I click "OK" on that error message, I get a black video capture window with the correct audio for the video input I have selected (TV, composite, or S-Video). Clicking the "record" button in WinDVR 2 produces the error message "The specified capture format is not supported on hardware" regardless of which input source I choose.

I have not been able to locate any updates or patches for WinDVR2 from InterVideo (now pwned by Corel) - if there are any available, I'd like to give that a shot.

If anyone has any insight as to how I can get this fixed, please let me know.

You might go to the Nvidia site and download the latest chipset drivers. Not usually advised, but if you are having problems with the Chaintech drivers, it's one option. The drivers from the chipset manufacturer are often newer than the OEM drivers from the card maker. http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
