Ok so my sister had an older Hp 7940. She said that it kepts restarting itself every so often. So since i'm not an expert about PCs, but do know some things and can usually figure out a problem when one arises. So I gave her an older dell I had sitting around added some ram, etc, and now she has a fine working pc, and I would check out the old HP when I had time. The other day my fiances mother was asking if I had an old pc that she could you just for ms office and internet. So I go an open up the hp 7940, and to my surprise there was no fan? I'm 100% no one ever opened up the Hp, because I am the only one in my family with any tech knowledge.

    So my questions are:

    1. Can someone tell me if the Hp Pavilion 7940 originally came without a fan?
    2. I have another dell pc that does have a fan(but it's only good for parts, not able to run it), so would it be possible to fit the dells fan into the hp?

Thanks for any input you can help me with

several years ago I had an old compaq -- same story, no fans. at all.
I have a "newer" Dell, probably about 4 years old now that has no CPU fan and clearly never did.
It does have an exhaust fan in the back of the case though...

I bought a economy business model of a HP computer for a friend a few years ago. It used a low power Celeron CPU that used a passive heatsink on the CPU and the power supply blew air on it. (Or sucked air from it, I don't recall.) The CPU heatsink was only a few inches from the PS grille. Apparently that was enough as that particular computer is still running.

Try that with a Intel Prescott CPU.

So if it has a heatsink over the CPU, it could have come that way without a fan.

I once fixed up a old dell pc that had no fans as well but there was a slot for one on the case so I installed a spare fan that I had. Then I installed a 20gb since the original HD was dead. Sold the pc for $50.00.
