I followed the instructions to install the latest version of ffmpegx, installed the mpeg2enc, mplayer and mencoder as instructed. copied the reallib folder across to the application support folder as well.

However when I try to open a rmvb file, it takes about 30min to open it after i choose the file. Once I get to the screen the file is recognised as rmvb rv40. When I try to hit play nothing happens.

When I choose encoding to divx mencoder, it finishes straight away, and I see the following:

My box is a new pc with a quad core 6600 and a few gigs of ram, running 10.4.10. I'm at a loss with what to do next. I've tried reinstalling it a few times and still get the same result.

First be sure to have an Intel version of the Real codecs installed. See also post 1639705.

Yes I have followed the instructions and I am using the intel version of reallib. I just tried it again. This time after I choose a rmvb file, it doesn't take so long to go back to the main window. The file is detected as rmvb, but nothing happens if I hit the play button. Also when I try to encode it to divx mencoder it finishes straight away as it did before with the same message.

I found out what the problem was. The source file needs the extension renamed from .rmvb to .rm. Once this is done the conversion goes through.

Is there a way to get ffmpegx to get real media files to work as .rmvb and not having to rename it to .rm everytime?
