Anyone know if Comcast has recently upped their speeds? I just did a speed test for the first time in quite a while and I'm clocking 18119kbps down and 1993kbps up. Seems a bit odd, but these results are about the same on a couple different test sites and server locations.

no - it's just the "speed burst" kicking in for the first 60sec or so. been that way for a year or two. after the limited "burst" it falls back to 6.5mbps.
here's a test i just did on my comcast connect.

Yes, Comcast has "powerboost" where they increase your up/down speed for like 1min. However they are also trottling bittorrents, and preventing users from uploading torrents which are used for LEGAL reasons such a Linux distributions, software patches and updates, and the downloading/trading of LEGAL music files such as bands that allow taping and trading.

we weren't patting comcast on the back layne, just a speed question. truth be told i abhore comcast and their tyrannical ways. their false bait and switch advertising stinks. "download what you want faster", if you do, you get a call from comcast security that you are d/ling too much and if it happens again your connection will be terminated without any further notice. i know, i got one of those calls.

Suddenlink cable just upped my DL speed to 7MB from the previous 4MB. Interesting that nothing downloads a bit faster.
They have my upload capped at 256KB, apparently their way of discouraging P2P activities. And of course they upped their monthly charges after the 'speed' increase.

I run torrents just about daily and so far haven't heard anything on it. Of course I'm not uploading or downloading massive amounts for an extended period either. About an hour or two each morning.

here's a link to a story about comcast.

just my opinion but i think comcast knows where their breakeven point is in usage. anyone over that number of GBs used, they lose money on and try to get rid of. they would really like to only have the people who use 6.5mbps cable to get their email once a day....--
