First, without knowing the brand and model of the burner, no one can help you.

Second, the manual and/or the box will tell you which disc types are supported by the player. If the player only supports +R discs, then no, you can't burn -R discs.

    Welcome The_Masterchief

To start off , please knock the caps off .

    Pc wizard from http://www.cpuid.com/
Install , run , wait till it finishes , click drive icon ... it will report supported media types the drive handles .

Dvd to cd , use imgburn ... nero express can also do this .
More common practice is conversion to vcd or svcd ... or if your unit supports mpeg4 / divx playback

Test your home dvd player , if it works , check "dvd players" link to the left , if model listed , post dvd to cd works on unit .

I would reference this as "dvd authored writen to cd" , as mine can play these .

If your unit dosent exist and relatively new , use the link provided to have brand / model included .

  8. Your LITEON will burn both, unless it is an LDW-401, which only burns DVD+R.

No, you cannot burn DVDs onto CDRs.

Some DVD burners, only SOME now, not all, have hacked firmwares that you can install that support burning to both + and - DVD discs. Whether your burner does or not is something you will have to determine via an internet search. However, Shocker Milwaukee says that unless you have the LDW-401, you can burn both formats so the odds are that you are OK.

Do note that while it is possible to burn DVD format to CD-R discs that most standalone DVD players can't play these discs and the small CD-R disc size will limit you to about 20 minutes or less of video, depending on the bit rate you use.

You might want to look at

and read about DVD media brands. If you bought some cheap brands to save money, you may regret it. Possible problems include making coasters and having discs go bad a few years from now if the brand you bought is bad enough.
