ADS Tech Instant-video-to-go is faster. Unfortunately it's not free.

I should note, however, that I don't think any of the free all-in-one converters (or any of the other free converters that will allow you to create iPod-compatible videos) can decrypt/rip a DVD. You'll most likely need to do that separately, and feed the ripped DVDs to the converters.

HandBrake encodes DvDs to iPod - fast, high quality and FREE. Great program!

Keep in mind though. I'm not sure what your defintion of "high quality" is, but as for iPod video it doens't seem to exist at the current iPod H.264 specs.

No matter how good the encoder or the clip it makes is, anything that is iPod compliant at the low complexity H.264 specs the iPod can handle will suck on a bigger screen. If it looks good on a bigger screen, it will not work on an iPod.

As of today, encoding with the H.264 specs the current iPod accepts is not worth it IMHO. Apple is only tooting its horn about H.264 on the iPod just for marketing. Anybody that knows anything knows that the specs for it on the device are very weak.

If you are not archiving video, and are only encoding to watch on an iPod's small screen once or twice then delete, but still keeping the source then just use the older MPEG-4. It's MUCH, MUCH, MUCH faster to encode and will look fabulous on a smaller screen.

...still wondering what the next model of the iPod will do though...
I hate VHS. I always did.
