I build a few website here & there. I recently gave my site a face over but my Web host continues to crash over & over for 2 years. I'm tried of there excuses. I need just a reliable host. I was thinking about getting a server for myself but the license fee is very high & you have to continue to upgrade after a few years, to expensive for me. Any suggestion? Thanks

  2. If you use GNU/Linux and Apache for your webserver, it won't cost you a dime in licensing fees. Of course you'll still need to get a dedicated IP address or someplace to colocate it.

I did that for a while, but after some time passed, I determined I didn't really need physical access to my webserver. Now I'm hosted with Bluehost, and have had no issues thus far.

Verio - Expensive but absolutely reliable.

Internet Connection (Easton, MD) - Running a site off them now. Verio spun them off recently. So far, so good.

Inetu (Allentown, PA) - Seems good. They are careful about who they host and therefore aren't blackholed like many ISPs are. They do collocation too.

Aplus - Like Inetu, I have not personally used them but they are apparently well-regarded and highly-recommended. Again, they don't (knowingly) host spam/porn/warez sites - and they promptly deal with any that do appear - so they are not on any blacklists.

I've been using PowWeb for several years and haven't had any problems with them. IIRC cost is still $7.77 a month. I run two sites with them.
