  1. Hi folks,

I was all excited and downloaded "d2mp 3.8" yesterday after unistalling 3.7 version.

I ran a test with a very small AVI Clip (Avengers) ... and my darn Video came out BLUE!?!?

Q1: Do you know how to fix that? I think it has to do with DirectShow or FFDSHOW!!! Since I keep getting a pop-up in the middle of the process and I have to choose do it only for this one time or always ... to process it with FFDSHOW or something ...

Q2: Can I change my decision to open up / use FFDSHOW in d2mp? If yes ... how? Would Removing & Re-installing d2mp fix this selection?

Q3: Also, since I have no FFDSHOW under my "Programs" directory ... but I know I have FFDSHOW since I see it in my "Add & Remove" control panel ... HOW CAN I change set-up?

    Thanks,
    G!

q3: you can reinstall ffdshow and it should appear under programs. You can also access the ffdshow setup by double clicking on the ffdshow-icon in the notification while playing a video that uses ffdshow.

  3. Hi Baldrick,

Thanks for the Pointer ... I should have thought about that myself.

    Thanks again,

There is no difference on D2mp video processing from version 3.7 to 3.8.
In fact the issue maybe related with the video encoder and/or ffdshow codecs.
d2mp still comes with old ffdshow codecs since the new ones where not deeply tested .
My suggestion is for doing a Full d2mp 3.8 install (with ffdshow) and then upgrade ffdshow to the last version.

    Good luck

Just to jump in since I've used d2mp for a while(and it's one of the few encoders that doesn't mind running on Vista) I noticed in 3.8 the progress bar doesn't function. Also when setting the video encoder to QuEnc 1 pass, it insists on launching QuEnc in 2 pass mode(at least on my PC.) I have HP Pavilion AMD 5200+ duo core running Vista Home Premium.

The other question: is there an archive of old versions on the net somewhere? I know I should have stored in an organized fashion as I went along but I messed up. It would be nice to be able to get fresh downloads of old versions.

Thanks for the program. I use it the most for avi=>dvd

    Hi:
Progress bar coding was not changed since version 3.6! IT should work. In fact, I've just made a quick encoding of quenc with 1 pass, and it seems to be working.
Please note that the progress bar evaluates the encoded file size on-the-fly during encoding to report the status. If the encoding phase is not producing a file, there will be no progress bar. For instance, if using quenc with 2 phases, it will only start updating the progress bar in phase 2, once phase 1 does not produce any output.

About quenc with 1 phase encoding: It also seems to be working just fine.
But please note, that if any kinf of error occured during any video or audio encoding, d2mp will automatically try a 2nd more stable encoding process, and in that case it may seems like it is doing a 2 pass encoding.

About old versions: videohelp keeps some of them in their archive. You may just check-it. If you need any other, please eMail-me.

Okay, that explains why I see no progress bar during a quick test because quenc is being launched in
2-pass mode. I maximize quenc and it shows pass 1 of 2 then double-checked the setting in d2mp and
    it shows one pass selected.

About quenc with 1 phase encoding: It also seems to be working just fine.

I see. I've seen this before but when this happens quenc will close then a new window will open and
it will start again. So it's not the same as above. When you maximize quenc it will say 1/1 pass.

I didn't get the 2-pass issue with quenc using 3.7 and earlier for some reason.

I got 3.7 from the download archive. Thanks for your answers.
    Thanks again for d2mp.

I am sorry, but I've repeated quenc 1 pass encoding over and over again and cannot replicate your issue. May you please try to unninstall d2mp, delete d2mp.ini and re-do a full d2mp install ?

About the blue screen issue, it may be related to ffdshow codecs distributed with d2mp being old versions. What I suggest is to do a ffdshow update AFTER a d2mp FULL INSTALL.

I've done that and it has no effect. Are you trying it on Vista? I have Vista Codec Pack installed. I don't
know if that has any effect or not. For now I'm using 3.7 and I still have issues but they're less frequent.

    Ahhh. ok.
I've not tested it with Vista.
I've seen some code samples and it seems that Vista as a different program spawning mechanism. That COULD be the issue.
I will investigate how to garantee Vista support in the future, but it can take some time.
Isn't possible to call XP programs in Vista with some sort of "compatibility mode" ?

I haven't investigated that too much. The next time it happens I'll have to try it.

Maybe I should try encoding with ffmpeg and see what happens. I get instances
where quenc will encode almost to the end before complaining about an error.
It seems like if ffmpeg starts off normally then it finishes(at least that seems to
be my experience with gui4ffmpeg but I've just started using that on Vista
    too.)

If I notice anything that I think may be helpful I'll post a follow-up.

    Ok. Thanks.
Please note that ffmpeg is already used for audio - you can force d2mp to encode just audio and wait for the results.

Let me also remind that for video, appart of quenc, you can also try HCENC and CCE

    Some fresh news:
I've finnally replicated Miles issue with the quenc passes - there was really a bug!
(sorry). I believe it is now corrected.
I've also updated support to newer ffdshow and mediainfo versions (to be included in the future full install), improving compatibility with some newer codecs versions.
If you'd like mkv support, that is also included in the new plus versions.
I'm preparing some more changes that should allow me to publish a new d2mp 3.9 version on the end of the month.

(Just e-mail me if you want to receive a beta version)
