XBOX tricks and cool "features".

Hey all,

I just bought an XBOX (NOT a 360) and was wondering where to find all the juicy details on the cool stuff you can supposedly do with this console.
First & foremost -- how do I get all my music on it? I have over 20G of wma's on my Win2K PC and I don't want to have to dig out all my CD's and rip them 1 by 1 onto the XBOX for custom soundtracks.

It came with Halo, Forza, and Morrowind. I think I'll trade Morrowind and Forza in for credit toward an S-Video or component adapter...
Besides Halo, what other games are out there for the XBOX that were "killer apps"? I hate sports games and if it was available for PS2 or GameCube I probably already have it.

I have every Nintendo console ever made as well as a TurboGrafx-16 and emulators for all of Sega's consoles, so I'm really not all that interested in the mods available for XBOX.
I mainly want to know what were the best exclusive games and how do I get my tunes onto it.

oh yeah, one other thing:
I'll probably look into getting XBOX Live -- some of my family members have Live for their 360's, can I play XBOX games online against somebody who is playing the same game on their 360?

I doubt you can play against 360 players with the original XBOX.

I am currently in the process of modifying my XBOX. I am going to add XBMC onto it. Supposedly you can stream your media off your home network using it. So that's a huge plus. Don't know if that's what you'd like to do.

that would work too! I thought there was an official piece of software that would allow this?

also, looking for "hidden" settings, tweaks, &/or exploits.

There is an official one but I think its limited to use with Windows MCE. XBMC allows the XBOX to work like the AppleTV. You can just rip your dvds to the hard drive and play that on the XBOX.

I can't wait to try it out. %^$ eBay seller is taking his sweet time getting the Action Replay to me and does not answer messages!!

That's weird. I've been reading that if done right you won't be banned. But seeing as I don't use xbox live, I can't test it out.

So I finally got everything and finally got down to modding my xbox. It is the easiest thing in the world to do. I can't believe I waited this long to do it (I originally bought the xbox about a year and a half ago for just this purpose).

After the mod and I installed XBMC I tried it out by playing a DVD iso file I just ripped to my hard drive. Didn't work at all. It started playing but it just skipped and skipped and skipped. Like someone just kept pushing pause. So then today I remembered I had gotten a cheap N router and hooked up my laptop and the xbox to it. Surprisingly the video played just fine. So then I remembered I had a usb wireless adapter I didn't use. I plugged that baby into my desktop and connected to the N router. I tried the video I tested again. Worked like a charm.

So in the end I got what I wanted. I can put the xbox anywhere in the house and play all my dvds wirelessly.

Spent $1.99 for a used copy of "XBOX MUSIC MIXER" and downloaded a free proggy for the PC.
Transferring my tunes to the XBOX is now quick & easy...

If you sign up for live before you modified youe xbox
you can change the the eeprom with configmagic after you modify it with a chip or softmod you wont get banned

XBMC allows you to stream audio or video from your pc definitely a must have for an old xbox

Its easier to softmod than to hard mod an xbox (even though both are pretty easier if you have soldering skills and moderate computer skills) leeme kkow if you need some help send me a pm

Ithink you can play game like halo but not all orginal xbox games are compatible to play on 360 just keep that in mind

It's cool.
I don't see what all the hype was about though.
It's just a shinier version of Red Faction...
I'm not very impressed with the whole "you can only carry 2 weapons" deal.

@ xylob - have you played halo2 yet?

Also its the multiplayer mode that halo really shines on. Definitely a different game. If I remember right halo 1 only had on console multiplayer and not live ability. Halo 2 has both live and console multiplayer. BIG difference to the single player mode.

Now that my halo 2 copy for VISTA is running full tilt it is definitely fun. Though I'm only doing the single player right now. My free LIVE account is expired and I have to consider if I want to sign up for gold or not. I have to look around for at least one more current game I can play on my pc at top level and then I'll probably commit to LIVE.

nope, haven't picked up Halo2 yet.
Haven't found it less than $30 used....

As for multiplayer -- I don't have LIVE and I don't want to commit $50 to a 1 year service that I can't try out first and may wind up not liking or not using....

I looked on Micro$oft's site(s) and couldn't find any info on trials or 1 month deals...
The 3 month package is almost as much as the 1 year deal, so again a waste of $$$$

Check out a new package of halo 2 - I think they have them in the GREATEST HITS category now. They might be 20.00 new now not sure if that is a fact or not....

But I believe all LIVE games include a month free trial. Try looking into it

Just stopped by BestBuy -- large assortment of $10.00 games.
Halo2 is $30....
Might as well get the new one since that's what everybody want used as well.

What I really need is a controller or 2.
After returning 3 broken used controllers in 1 day to GameCrazy I've given up on used hardware from there!
