I recently made a VCD using the guides, but set the resolution at 320 x 368, I cropped it and its final resolution came to 320 x 304, it all works fine and all on my PC - I have no standalone DVD player to check if they actually do work on a DVD Player (that can play VCD's) so I gave it to a friend and he said its all messed up... is this because of the resolution setting? or is his DVD player unl33t?

Yes, it is because of your framesize.
You should use just the standard one (352x240/288 ).
Read "What Is VCD" on the left hand menu.

Make sure you stick to the actual specs of VCD (they are listed on this site)
Pal 352-288, 25 images/sec
NTSC 352-240, 29.97 images/sec
Both have audio 224 kbit/sec
Finally, you need to use a software that can burn VCDs, like Easy CD Creator Deluxe, WinonCD or Nero to name a few.
Finally, you need a DVD player that can read CDRs.
Cheers
