I'm looking for a DVD player that has a USB port that would allow me to plug my external hard drive and USB drive up to it. I want to be able to play my video files from it. The formats are Real Media, MPEG1-4, .AVI and .WMV. There might be something else but that covers 90% of the files.

And I was wondering if anyone here could tell me if such a player exist and where I can find it.

Okay, my reasoning for wanting this is that I have A LOT of videos on my computer (over a terabyte and several hundred hours worth). It's more than would be practical to burn on to DVDs to play in a conventional player. At the same time I don't really like S-video cords as they and my computer don't agree. Sooooo... I basically need a DVD player with a USB port that can player the fore mentioned formats (.AVI, .WMV, .RM, MPEG1-4, DIVX).

If a player like that exists then great. I'm assuming there is isn't anything out there that will play real media files but that would be a bonus. ^_^

If I'm way off and there's nothing out there like this then what's the closest thing? I'd like to get the least expensive player available that can do what I want, but I'll spend the big bucks if I need too.

Such a player does not exist. To get playback across the likes of real and wmv and avi and mp4 you need to look at a HTPC. If you want a standalone player you need to convert at least some of your formats. The other option would be something like a mediagate or a media server that streams from your PC.

The closest I can think off that meets your needs and is a standalone player would be a ZenSonic.

    Philips DVP 5980

Don't know if the philips' usb port is usb 2. I own the 5960 which has only usb 1. I use it to play xvid avi from flashdrive which works great.
