  1. I ripped a dvd that was episodes, so I used AutoGK to created a series of avi's. I want to use VirtualDub to join them into one avi, but the bitrate differs from one avi to the other.
    I suppose I have to use a bitrate calculator & figure out what size the avi's have to be to so AutoGK will set the same bitrate in each.
    I'm worried that the 1mb size change allowed in AutoGK will be too coarse to get the exact same bitrate. Is there a bitrate fudge factor in VirtualDub in case the bitrates aren't exactly the same? Is there an easier way of doing it?

    VirtualDub is the very best way to join AVI files. Its very easy and very fast.

    1. Load First File
    2. Append Load Second, Third, Fourth, ... Files
    3. Change The Video Encoding Option To Source Copy (Direct Copy, Something Like That)
    4. Default Audio Settings Are Fine
    5. Save As...

    How can the framerate differs if you ripped the episodes from the same DVD...

    Was the DVD both PAL and NTSC hmmmmm

    EDIT: sorry did you mean problem with differing bitrates

  4. Yeah, bitrates, not frame rates. Sorry, I mis-typed in my first post.
    When I try to append the 2nd file in VDub, I get an error about the data being different. When I open the files seperately, I see that the only difference is the data rate, expressed in kbps.

  5. I join VBR files of different bitrates all the time with VirtualDub. I'm not sure if it works with CBR files of different bitrates though.

    <edit>

    I just checked: CBR files of differing bitrates work fine too. With VirtualDub, VirtualDubMPEG2, and VirtualDubMod.

  6. I'm trying it with AutoGK set to 75% target quality & it seems to be working. Perhaps it had something to do with me having it set at a 350mb file size. I have no idea, but as long as it's working...

  7. Yeah, it's nothing to do with differing video bitrates. Audio bitrates, maybe. If so, create the audio as CBR with all the same bitrate. And, of course, the resolutions will all have to be the same.
