I'm using Vobblanker to eliminate some extra bits. My dvd has several menus, many of which have a MB of black (no video) when you preview the related PGC (in the PGC window). If you keep the menu, but blank out the PGC, will that harm the menu or dvd? I tried it, and the dvd file and menu seem to play fine in the computer.

  2. Hi-

No, no problem there. In fact some DVDs have huge black blank menus of hundreds of MB which you more or less have to blank out or else the reencoded video is greatly affected because of the much smaller filesize you'll be forced to use. Those don't usually have any buttons and are unreferenced (VobBlanker will warn you if there are buttons), so there's no problem blanking them.

Sometimes you'll get menus in more than one language, you want them only for your language, and want to free up the space by getting rid of the menus in a different language. Those will have buttons, you'll get the warning, and you can go ahead and blank them. If it's only for you, and your player goes directly to your language, you're OK. But to be absolutely safe, it's a good idea to edit some navigation commands using PGCEdit, so there's no chance of the other language menus ever being called.

Cool, thanks! While there's only about 6 Menu vts with the black PGC, the menus themselves are animated with music, taking up 300 MB! I'm experimenting with Menushrink to reduce them to 15 MB.

  4. You can easily still the ones you want, where you want, using VobBlanker.

When I get them that big, I'll leave the main menu alone and still the other menus. I hate to waste that much space on menus also, and prefer to use the freed up space to improve the movie's quality.
