I am having major problems converting avis or mpgs to dvd. Tried searchging these forums but cannot find anything. I have tried using nero 7 and half way through i get an error and it has to close. I have used convertx to dvd, yasa video convertor, winavi, dvd flick and a few others and every time its converting somewhere along the line it crashes and bring up the windows error report with close, send or debug. i have tried everything installed codecs and stuff but just cant get it to work. i can convert avi to mpg but cannot get it to finish converting/creating dvd files or vob files. I am running Windows XP SP2, an Athlon XP2800 and 1280MB DDR RAM. I am getting quite stressed out its just not working. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

How much free disk space do you have? Make sure you have at least 10GB free space.

2 programs I've been experimenting with include:
AVI2DVD - and DVDFlick. DVDFlick is pretty easy to use and intuitive.
AVI2DVD seemed to do a better job for me, but it is more complicated and very slow.
In the end - I used AVI2DVD (set to best quality) for my purpose as I wanted the best output possible and was perfectly willing to walk away and do something else while it cranked on.
If you keep having program crash problems when trying to convert your avi file, you might consider if maybe the avi file you are working with is corrupt in some way. -
I will add that convertxtodvd works fine. i have used it many times so the problem is not the programs it's something with you computer. So to be able to figure out what the problem is will be quite difficult. It could be a corrupted registry or someother windows problem. What type of video card do you run? You didn't mention. The first thing i would do is download codec sniper and check for damaged codecs. Then you can start diagnosing from there.

Convert X 2 DVD kind of works but constantly brings up "error decoding stream #0.0" which im assuming is the video stream its finishes and burns but the film is jumpy, and audio becomes crackly. Any ideas how i can sort this? Thanks

Have you installed any codec packs ?
Have you updated ConvertXtoDVD recently ?
That so many programs are crashing or misbehaving would suggest the problems are with your system, not the programs themselves.
You should also check your system logs around the time of the crashes to see if anything useful has been written there.Read my blog here.

i can convert avi to mpg but cannot get it to finish converting/creating dvd files or vob files
Update the video card drivers first .
Super to encode via memcoder first to mpeg2 with ac3 audio .
If clip fails render , run failed clip via using ffmpeg as encoder choice in super .
These should not fail to be authored by dvdauthorgui , once they have been demuxed by batchdemux .
Then burn the output from dvdauthorgui , via imgburn .
----
As there are several clips , what dose gspot or mediainfo have to report from each mpeg thats has been generated after the conversion process ?
