I saw a lot of DVD players sold in China featuring multi region. If getting one from China directly and connect it with a DVD recorder, will it still have a macrovision problem or it only allows playing all region DVD movie? I need a macrovivion free DVD player to connect my DVD recorder. But, the DVD recorder is NOT macrovision free. Does anyone know whether it will work?

Highly likely. Get a TBC and connect it between the player and recorder.

I have used several cheap Chinese DVD player. Most of them came multiregion and a couple were made multi region throug a hack. For some of them there were macrovision hacks, but not for all.

  4. There were also a number of older Pioneer model dvd players that were easily modified internally to make them multi-region and permanently shut off macrovision pollution from the output video stream. The DV-505 is one - also the combination laser disc/dvd DVL-909. The mod is easy (although it does require soldering a couple of connections on the internal boards) and it works perfectly. You might find some on EBay.

No you do not NEED a macrovision free DVD player. You can rip any DVD on your PC and remove macrovision that way and then burn it back to a burnable DVD disc. Copying DVDs via a standalone recorder is really not the best way to go in terms of quality, but I suppose it has some attraction if you are too lazy to do the rip and burn method. If you don't know about ripping and burning, you should read up on that.

I would not hold my breath that any Chinese DVD player would drop macrovision. If you know of specific models, you could always search the internet for info on those models.

In addition to macrovision free,it must also be Digital Copy Protection free. There are two copy protections to defeat, not just macrovision. Many old Apex models can be made DVD recorder friendly,AD-3201,AD-500WM,Ad-1500. In addition other models can be made DVD Recorder friendly by flashing with OFFA firmware.

You guys provided useful info. So, if one of the DVD players can be disabled macrovision, either the source DVD player or DVD recorder, then there should have no macrovision problem. Is it right? BTW, I know ripping and burning but just want to know more methods to kill the macrovision.
