Some of my DVD's have dropped frames when they are played on different machines amongst friends. Sometimes they play perfect and sometimes not at all.

They play fine on my stand alone Panny, and my cheapo XYZ player.

I use Taiyo Yuden 16 speed -R blanks. Would it help at all if I burned at a slower speed for greater compatability for all the different players my friends and family have?

Does burning speed only have to do with saving time or is their a quality issue with speed?

    Thanks to all!

Some say yes. Some say no. Just like there is no universally compatible brand of disc, there is no universally compatible burning speed. The old style school of though is that slow burning is better burning. On old discs this might have been true. The newer school of thought is that you should burn at the rated speed of the disc, or the highest speed of your burner - whichever is the lower.

That said, there are many factors involved in getting a playable disc, including (potentially); burning speed, burner, media, burner firmware, compatibility between burner and media, compatibility between media and player, age of player, condition of player, quality of player. Putting labels on discs can cause playback issues. So many points where something can go wrong.

Personally, I think slowing down burning is a myth. Others swear by it. It costs you nothing but time to try it.
