hi...I have several avi files that I am burning onto a dual layer disk...I am using a burner that support 2.4x as it max speed so I burned at that speed using sonic mydvd, and the video stutters when I play it back in my dvd player...i know burning the video at too fast a speed could make it skip...but is it possible its skipping becuase I didnt burn it fast enough???? I am currently burning the same dvd with a different burner at 4x do you think this will work??...whats the problem here?? any suggestions before I waste any more blank dual layer dvds at like 4 bucks a pop??

The problem could be with Dual Layer Disks. What brand are you using. The best are Verbatims.

I second verbatim DL dvd+r as will pretty much everyone.

Second, if you are putting avi's to dvd with sonic mydvd you mean you are converting the avi's to dvd format with sonic mydvd, because i don't think sonic mydvd will let you burn an AVI dvd disc.

Third, if you are using sonic mydvd also to burn the DL dvdr
I would definately use something else to burn the finished files to a DL dvd+r like ImgBurn, & convert the avi's to dvd format with something else also 8)

how likely is it that it is the discs im using vs the program I am using to burn them? ...is nerovision express any better???...it does the same thing as sonic mydvd...anyway....until I can get to the store tommorow to get some verbatim DL'sI am trying burning a few of the avi's onto a regular 4.7gb dvd-r if that works ill know its the discs...I am also using nero instead of sonic.

  6. It could be the discs and/or it could be the burner. More likely it is as others have said your process. Have you tried playing the video in the computer to see if it plays ok there?

Memorex i snot teh best media. $4 a disc for 2nd grade media? Yikes! I paid $29.99 for a 20 pack of Verbatim. Actually 3 x 20 pcs.

I wait til Best Buy has them on sale and then buy. At that price they are $1.50 per disc. I say could be burner as I never had luck with Memorex DL media in an older Lite-On and a Pioneer 109. When I changed to a new Lite-On they suddenly started to burn error free and playback good. I now use +R DLs all the time. The Memorex almost worked in the older burners and they 99% of the time work in the new Lite-Ons. I've had one bad burn in 50 or 60 now. So botom line meda or drive can make a difference. But MyDVD is not the best.

Download the trial version of TDA 3 , it will put a small watermark on the menus but it will do the job.

Create your Dual layer and then burn with imgburn. Works for me.

BTW using Sonic MyDVD or Nerovision Express you are not burning avi's. You are converting them and then burning them as a standard DVD.
    Good Luck

thanks for the advice....the thing is I want to use a program that can create nice menus becuase these dvds are a gift....by burning avi's I just add the avi files and yes, it converts them to dvd format...I am also using an older sony dvp-c670d which gives the dreaded c:13:00 error (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/508586) its a really good player but its outdated...some of the videos still skip when played on my computer...but it is better than the dvd player....any ideas for programs that can create nice menus if nero doesnt work??

  8. As I suggested TDA 3 is a authoring package that can encode as well. You can add chapters to any title where you want them. It has many choices of menu styles.

As I said it is a free trial. Download, add a short avi for example and give it a try. It also encodes to divx as well as to regular DVD. Or you can just add DVD ready files and author with no conversion. I use it some of the time to make .divx with chapters and menus or a quick and easy wmv/mov/avi/flv etc to standard DVD or to reauthor a existing DVD.

Hi, I saw this and know it's an older thread but would like to add something if no objections...and problem wasn't solved...

Given the skipping scenario, if the DVDs don't do the trick or the software and even if the burners are old, there could be a couple of things to look at..

    1. Could be the drive lenses are dirty. A couple of bucks for a DRY brush disk will work wonders to get that burner\player working properly.

    2. Power supply not holding up. So many times I have had to change the PSU as it wouldn't outright show any signs of going bad, yet the dvd burners \ cd burners would produce "skipping" every time a dvd was burned. Once the new PSU was installed, the disks burned absolutely great. This is something to look into as well.

    3. The players\burners are old, this is always a downside too, the lens will wear out in time.

    Cheers,

    Paul

I have to tend to disagree to some extent. I have been using Memorex DVDs for some time and have no problems, wear, and all have been fine. However, I have ran into the same brands that make crappy cheap versions too as with a few years back, the Memorex CDs would peel right after a burn so it's always possible I suppose. Just from my past couple years experience with Memorex, the DVDs have been good to me.

Memorex does not make their own media. They buy some of the cheapest crap possible, and slap their brand on it. Just a few years ago, they had to issue a public apology (via a near-hidden press release on their site) because many of their discs were just pathetic crap useful only for keeping cup rings off a table.

Ah yes, this must have been the peeling days I mentioned. I remember my music disk, burned it, then 2 days later it peeled like like a ripe banana. But back then, I didn't have their DVDs, I had some Staples brand, but they are still going strong so I can't complain. Data has remained in tact, etc.... Although I back up all the time so it wouldn't matter, I have over 10 years worth of data backed up, "digital junk collector" lol.

So Memorex actually had to make an apology. What happened to them? Probably due to them being so high priced, competitive medias threw them into the pit I suppose. Or they didn't get ahead in the game and played catch up. Well at least lately, the DVDs I have by Memorex have been decent. Although time will tell. I mean if anyone is old enough, remember the "Is it live, or is it Memorex?" commercials? Talk about going down hill...
