    Hello,

I am not sure what is going on but this problem has me totally stumped.

I have an LG LRH780 DVD recorder. I am very happy with the unit and have been using it for a while. However, the DVDs I produce seem to play fine on certain DVD players (audio and video) but not on others (Video only). I use DVD-R discs exclusively for maximum compatibility.

I have looked through the manual several times and tried adjusting a few menu options but nothing seems to be working.

    Please help.

  2. What audio are you using(eg LPCM,MPEG,Dolby,DTS)?
Not all DVD players support MPEG and DTS.
Another problem is the audio flags in the PGC may not say English,if it is marked as another language it might not work.
And lastly:have the people you gave them to tried the audio button on the remote?
Use IfoEdit to determine the properties.

    Hello MOVIEGEEK,

Thanks for your response. I am using Dolby PCM. There is another setting (Bitstream) that I tried but that was not much help either.

Forgive my ignorance.....what is a PGC?

I was actually able to get one of the DVD players that does not play audio and tried tweaking its audio settings. Nothing fixed the problem.

To use Ifoedit, I would have to re-author the disc on my PC, right?

Thanks once again for all your help.

Is it pcm or ac3? Either should work as those are dvd standard. Are you saying the video works but not the audio on some players? If they didn't work at all I'd suspect bad discs but this is a little odd.

The only thing I could suggest would be to convert the audio to either pcm or ac3 which ever you didn't start with and reburn it to see if that might be the issue. Also might not hurt to try another brand of blank discs..
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  5. I highly doubt it's the media because it either works(audio & video) or it doesn't.
Make sure they set the audio out in the players to "Dolby/PCM" and select "English" in Disc Audio.
IfoEdit is used to verify the properties, just open an IFO file.
Do the DVD's play ok on your PC?Use PowerDVD,etc to check the audio properties.

    Hello guys,

Thanks so much for the useful tips. I have tweaked the audio output on the DVD players as suggested......all to no avail. I am still trying to process the VOB file. I will post the results once I have them.

The DVD plays on my PC (WinDVD and RealPlayer). I do not have PowerDVD; however, when I play the disc with WinDVD, it has the Dolby Digital "Double D" symbol.

However, the issue gets more weird......I have an intro that I usually put on most of my DVDs that has a soundtrack and vocals on it. The music on the soundtrack plays on all the DVD players. However, on the problematic players, there are no vocals. It is as though there is a channel of audio missing.

I just finished processing the VOB file. The Audio is Dolby AC-3 2-channel 48kbps DRC (Dynamic Range Control)

Then the problem must be the way it was authored.
Try this:author just the main movie with no menus or intro, you can use DVDShrink to do this.

I am re-authoring the DVDs right now. I will post the results once I am done.

If this is the problem, what can I do to guard against it the next time. Typically, once I record the content, I just add the menus, label the disc and then finalize it.

    Hi panko1979,

One possibility could be with the default audio track.

I remember I once authored a DVD and set the default channel/track to '0' but my channel/track was actually '1' so when I loaded it it was playing a non existant channel/track.

Some players allow you to choose between audio tracks so see if this is an option with yours.
    Everyone lies.

The innocent lie because they don't want to be blamed for something they didn't do, and the guilty lie because they don't have any other choice.

    Thanks Dreadnaught,

I will look into that as well. The LG manual is not too informative. From what I have seen, there are no options to be selected when finalizing the disc.

    Hello guys,

I tried using DVDShrink to re-author the DVD but I got the same results.

I noticed that for the main title, it stated the Audio as "AC-3 (unspecified)". Could that be the problem.

Once again, thanks for all the suggestions.
