  1. I am putting together a new HTPC and this board has a plastic plug blocking 4 of the 8 pins of the ATX 8 pin power connector. Does this board need only a single plug with the 4 pins or is the plastic blocking the additional 4 need to be removed and the second 4 pin plug installed? The manual shows the plastic piece but also mentions inserting the 8 pin power plug??

It would help if we knew what MB you are using. P7N is a little vague in my book

However, unless I am very much mistaken, if your PSU has only a 4-pin connector then that is what you plug in.

Some PSU's now have 8-pin connectors yet I suspect that 4 pins are detachable to allow connection to a MB with only 4 pins.

If your PSU has an 8-pin connector then I would have thought that you simply remove that cover to connect it. It is there to prevent you pluging in a 4-pin into the wrong place.

  3. DB83, Thanks for the reply! The MB is an MSI board. It is currently populated with a 3.16 core 2 duo and 4 gb ram. The PSU is a 1000 watt unit with a split 12V supply plug. In other words you can connect 2, 4 connector plugs to make the traditional 8 connector config or leave it as 2 4 connector plugs. I believe you are correct about the cover but I didn't know how the core2 gets its power from that connector.
