Hi Gurus, I need your help please...

I would like to insert a jpg file in the middle of an avi file...so I have converted the jpg file into an uncompressed avi file. I've then taken the avi file and reprocessed it as uncompressed video (using vdub). I then used vdub to try and append the two files...

1st, it complained about different video frame rate, so I've fixed that. Both are now 29.9763 fps
2nd, it complained about different video stream sizes, so I've made them the same 352x340.

Then it came up with a problem with a different # of streams, now here I couldn't do much!
The jpg, which I've converted into an avi (obviously does not have an audio stream) while the original avi file has 2 streams video and audio...

Any idea how to get around this problem and append the two files? Or better yet, may be there is a better tool out there that allows you to do merge jpg and avi seamlessly?

    Thanks in advc...

I'd add some dummy audio tracks to the AVI you've created from your jpg to match the surrounding AVIs.
Or use some other video editor (even WMV) to do this, as you'll be forced to reencode anyway.

Thanks Mats! I did that, but I'm having problems getting both avis synched-up..video and audio frames are screwed-up...

Is there a tool out there that takes in 2 different avi and synchronize them so that can be merged/appended? That would be a life saver...

What do you mean by "video and audio frames are screwed-up... "? Do you get sync problems in the original AVI after inserting your jpg AVI? Maybe your original AVI has VBR audio tracks - this can cause all kinds of nasties if you try to cut it up into pieces. If so, decode audio to uncompressed, put it back in, and make sure it plays OK (without sync problems) before doing anything else.

When trying to append the file vdub keeps coming up with error like... different video frame rate, different audio streams, different # of audio stream, and finally different audio sampling rate...I just couldn't fix them...Note the the jpg+sound, that I've created is suppose to lst for only 2s...,hence when I check the file info (in vdub for the JPG+Audio) file), it says that there are 0 audio frames, which sound about right cose the jpg=audio only lasts for 1 or 2s. in fact the audio is 1s or 2s of silence, and I wanted to be so...Any help?

I wouldn't use Vdub as an editor for a job like that.

Whichever app you use, you'll need to match properties. So find out exactly what the properties of the original AVI is and do your 1st conversion of your jpg with those properties specified. Use Audacity (or something similar) to generate a length of silence if you absolutely need it (also matched to the original AVI's audio properties--unless it's VBR, then decode 1st).

Overall, though, you really don't want to be doing simple "Appending" for this kind of operation. It's more involved, so you need a real editor (see <-- Tools).

Anybody have more luck with this?

I've been trying to do exactly the same thing and running into the same problems.

    TIA
