When encoding for a DVD, is there any advantage to VBR when the content is only 30 to 45 minutes of video? With a smaller amount of content like this, the whole DVD can be at a high bit rate using CBR and fit on a DVD just fine. Is there any benefit to using VBR that I am missing? I'm referring to videos of less than an hour where a high bit rate can be used with CBR recording.

If you're going to use high bitrates (8000+) there will be little difference between VBR and CBR.

The only thing vbr will give you for this scenario is a longer encoding time.
