I want to make a backup but all the things i tried downloading just come out unrecognizable or corrupt. one of the is handbrake but when i get the beta for windows it doesn't work. can someone give me a direct link?

You want the 'Handbrake-win-2.25.msi' version for the latest Windows version. And you need to have Net 2.0 installed before you install HandBrake.

Before i install net 2.0 what is it? When i read "Framework" it makes me think it will change the way my computer functions or displays.

dot net is a set of libraries required for some programs to run. It is basically the same as the old visual basic runtime libraries that you used to have to have for all the old VB programs.
