I have nero showtime, media player classic, vlc player, and Divx player. yet not one of these players will let me view a video. the only program which lets me is window media player. can anyone here tell me whats wrong or what I am missing in these programs some movies are mpeg-2 some divx avi etc xvid got all the codec for them as well

It could be an overlay / hardware acceleration problem. Check your graphic card settings, like if you have two displays then set your monitor to the primary monitor.

Well I did as you asked baldrick and it seemed to have worked well i can now also use media player classic. but vlc player wont work still so dont know whats up with that and nero showtime

You may find you need to deregister and re-register some filters .

Reboot system after any adjustments .
For nero , it might be best to remove the product from the system and run the clean out tool from nero to make sure .

Reboot , reinstall nero product , reboot , see if that fix's nero's issue . -
I dont understand how this is done as when it pops up with a window saying direct show filters where do i find these then
