  1. I thought i'd run this past you, just in case.
I wiped my harddrive and removed all my PCI cards except my SCSI H/a for my hard drives in order to do a ground up reinstall of two partitions for win98 and winme. Once done, i would ghost the two partitions before installing all my apps.
My CDRW drive is the master (and only) drive on my IDE port.
I only noticed the problem when i tried to use Nero.
When i run nero, it scans the ide/scsi buses. It is here that it freezes.
I have to use task manager to end task. But if i then open "my computer", that is frozen too. I have to reboot. I can still read and use Cds in the drive, although it seems slow to respond. If i disconnect the drive, nero opens up ok, so it is obviously the drive causing the problem. I have tried the other IDE port, but it is still the same. I have tried a format and OS reinstall. I have also tried an earlier Nero and EZCD Creator, but still the same. Could the SCSI card be causing a conflict with the CDRW (although it was ok before), or is it coincendence that the drive just decided at this moment to give up the ghost? Any suggestions gratefully received.

  3. thanks, but i found the problem.
I installed the latest via 4in1 drivers which by default set DMA to the IDE ports. This screwed my CDRW drive. Once unchecked in system properties, all was ok.

  4. Yeah I suppose if your CDRW doesn't support DMA it could cripple it, i'm glad to hear your problem is solved! sorry I wasn't of any help.
