I use Convert X to DVD and they don't support that conversion-Who does?-I have 3 videos in HD-DVD and I am not able to watch them-also-is there a good HD-DVD software player out there with a free trial?-Soon -everthing will be in HD-DVD and hopefully the prices for the players will come down from their current 700.00 price tag!

No easy hd-dvd to dvd tool out yet. But all movies are also released in dvd format...

You can play hd-dvd with powerdvd ultra and windvd(with special upgrade) but no free trials available yet.

I just saw that Pinnacle Studio 11 will convert HD-DVD to regular DVD format. Circuit City has it for $79.00 with a $30.00 rebate. I don't know if it actually works but there ad says it does. Good Luck

  4. In my experience hardly anything in Pinnacle Studio actually works.

It's more accurate to say that in theory you can play HD-DVDs with PowerDVD Ultra and WInDVD, but in reality all software players have problems with certain HD-DVD discs. It's really crazy how one movie might play OK on everything and another might only play on PowerDVD version 7.1 and not at all on versions 6.5 and 7.2, or might play on 6.5 and not 7.1 and above, and so on.

If your PC is new enough and fast enough, it is possible to find drivers on the internet and attach the Xbox HD-DVD player add-on to your PC through a USB 2.0 connector and play HD-DVDs cheaply on your PC. However, that brings up the old PowerDVD/WinDVD bugaboo where some discs may not play with those players.

Toshiba has cut the prices of their low end model to $299 I think and supposedly Amazon was even offering a rebate that made it cheaper, but you'll have to check to see if that's still true. There is a strong rumor that WalMart is going to have millions of HD-DVD players for sale this Xmas for about $199 as they have supposedly arranged for a Chinese manufacturer to produce them in big enough volumes to offer a huge discount on the price. I've seen this reported at places I trust, so I think it's a realistic option if you want to wait a few months.

Thanks Folks-All good ideas-I'll just quit downloading hd-dvd format and wait to get a player once the price goes down.

You are in breach of the forum rules and are being issued with a formal warning.
Buy it on DVD. This is not the place to get help with illegal downloads.
    Read the rules again.

I am not getting illegal downloads and I do pay for my movies-I burn them legally from EZ Takes-they are 100% legal-now' if that is not permitted-why?-all of their movies are sold-not given away and they can be kept forever-not rented-perfectly legal

Why not use EZTake's conversion and burning tool ? Isn't that what it's for ?

EZ Takes does not have HD-DVD downloads ..... in fact they do not have any HD downloads ..... your question was on HD-DVD and you stated "I'll just quit downloading hd-dvd format" ===

since the only place you can download HD-DVD is via not quite legal avenues (in the USA) .... we only can believe what you stated in the first place ... non of us are that stupid ... end of discussion ..
