  1. Hello,

I did a google search for this already but just want some advice before I go and download a bunch of random software.

I want to hook my mic up and record voice for a little project im working on. Doesnt have to be high quality or anything, just something that can be played in a standard cd player.

The windows sound recorder only works for 60 second files and obviously, Im looking for more than that.

Does anyone have any proggies that they use for this type of thing?

Like i said, I did a search but would rather use first hand knowledge than just installing a ton of random "freeware" programs that wont work well.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    LG

You can also create(build) a longer .wav file with Windows Soundrecorder....just make a blank recording first. Record for your 60 seconds with no mic....save it to your HD....the keep merging them together (with Soundrecorder) until you get your desired length. I have a blank 7 minute .wav file called "silence" for just such an emergency.
I just import my "silence" file into Soundrecorder then clip portion I do not use....simple.

Hech you and I both like the Sound Recorder Accessory..
I like your trick with the 7 minute silence file.

Another way to use the Sound Recorder for long recording times
is to load any long file into the recorder, then "record over it" . Obviously ,
when done recording, you can SAVE AS and not overwrite your original file.

I figgured out the following about the Sound Recorder accessory:
    1. This program opens instantly if a wav file smaller in MB than the number of MB of ram is selected. Opening afile 1 megabyte larger than your installed rAM amount will take forever!

    2. The Sound Recorder Accesory has been destroyed in VISTA.
    a. It records only in WMA!! this is useless for system sound which still need to be WAV
    b. VISTA's sound recorder no longer plays back!! Only records in WMA shi***

Look at the utility called Silence on this page:

Great for auto creating WAV files with a desired time duration.
