i have some apps for WinXP to make windows transparent. Animated flash and flash movies work flawlessly with it, but most other video formats dont. Now what i dont understand is that Any videos from Google, YouTube, etc, work within the site, but when i play the videos in standalone media players they dont work anymore. Whats the deal with that?
(with "work" i mean support of translucent effects)

Because most media players use your graphics card's video overlay feature. Online players don't. When using overlay, the video isn't on the desktop. The player's window is a hole through which you see the video which is located elsewhere.
If you disable overlay (either system wide or within the player) the video will be displayed on the desktop. But cpu usage will go up and you'll lose other features like TV out, overlay brightness, contrast, color controls, etc.
